Departure from the hotel around 05:30 AM in the morning to visit The Monastery of Saint Catherine which is located at the foot of Mount Sinai in Egypt, is one of the oldest continuously functioning Christian monasteries globally. Built by Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century, it is named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The monastery, with its Byzantine and medieval architecture, serves as a place of worship, pilgrimage, and scholarship. Surrounded by defensive walls, it houses a significant library containing ancient manuscripts. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, the monastery is known for its historical and cultural importance and is a destination for those seeking both spiritual and historical experiences. Once the visit is over, we return to Sharm with a previous stop for lunch in the golden city of Dahab in a typical restaurant of the area by the sea.
Note: The monastery is open every day, except Sundays, and on Fridays, it is only open for one hour from 10:45 AM. to 11:45 AM.
